Eden Dance - Maiden Performance Opens Feb 17th @ Theatreworks

Eden Dance, 3dArt' professional and emerging dance platform, opens the lid on the stigma of postnatal depression with a new Melbourne contemporary dance performance tackling depression through dance. Where Have All The Flowers Gone? is dance art that whispers truth to the soul, finding colour in the dark.

Renowned Melbourne choreographers Colette MacLaren (Jason Coleman’s Australian Dance Awards, 1st Place Australian Choreographic Awards, Tombola Adelaide Fringe) and Hayley Thompson (Remnant Dance, Polarity Melbourne Fringe 2011, National Portrait Gallery Choreographer) collaborate in this pivotal new work bringing dignity to the true stories of survivors of depression.

Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide. In Australia, almost 1 in 10 women will experience antenatal depression. With up to 1 in 7 females and 1 in 10 men likely experiencing postnatal depression, it is the most common mental health condition following the birth of a new baby.

“It was like walking through wet cement”

“It crashed into our lives like a runaway train”

Known as the ‘thief in the night’, the ‘black dog’ and the ‘grey cloud’, for those that suffer from it, depression can feel like drowning. For those supporting them, it can be a long and winding road to travel.

“I can’t stop the waves coming, but I’m learning to surf”

Eden Dance will launch its maiden performance season of Where Have All The Flowers Gone? at Theatre Works, St Kilda 17-21 Feb.

Performed by a company of six, Where Have All The Flowers Gone? is an intimate and honest conversation through dance, bringing dignity to the stories of those who have journeyed through post-natal depression and those heroes who walk alongside sufferers of depression. Delving into the steadfast bonds of sisterhood, Flowers embraces the truth behind the struggle and celebrates the beauty of bringing the colour back.
