A GOOD KNIGHT STORY

“Once or twice upon a time
A long, long time ago
When dragons roared and kingdoms stood
By the courage of their heroes…”

Many suns ago, in the distant Kingdom of Caradoc, lived a noble, and very groovy order of Knights whose duty was to protect Queen Illystrata and all who lived in the twelve realms. With Feldspar the Brave at the helm, the Queen had just returned home with her Knights from battling an ancient enemy that had threatened the peaceful life the people of Caradoc had known for generations. Gathering in honour of their beloved Queen the citizens celebrated a Boogie Knight to remember the only way they knew how – with killer disco moves! All the while, unbeknownst to those closest to her, the Queen harboured a terrible secret and like a tightly wound coil, a powerful fear began to grip her heart. As her fear took hold throwing the once shimmering city of Caradoc into the shade of an eternal shadow, and with her people beginning to lose heart, the long succession of brave Kings and Queens who had ruled Caradoc looked to be coming to an end. But, just as cool under cannon fire, as under a mirror ball, the Knights of Felsic mounted one last defence in an epic dance-battle for justice, truth and chivalry that would be remembered across the ages.

A Good Knight Story is a tale as old as time itself, reminding us that courage doesn’t mean you don’t feel afraid, it means you don’t let your fears stop you. Saturday Night Fever meets Monty-Python in A Good Knight Story, an original, family-friendly musical about the meaning of courage and choosing to do the right thing, even when you are afraid.

Among the whinny of horses, the bleating of sheep, the snorting of pigs and the clucking of hens lives Patches, a curious alpaca born and raised on The Patch – a farm where everyone is welcome and the gate is always open! But what place is there for an alpaca like Patches who can’t grow a decent coat and who would rather tap-dance than mow the lawn?
Determined to find a place he thinks he’ll finally fit, Patches sets out with his new friend Feathers on a quest to discover where he truly belongs.  Setting out for the bright lights of Zoo York, the city of the stars, they are joined by a fleet-footed ferret called Whiskers. Hot on their tails are the Foxes, hungry for a feed on some farm-fresh fast food! Concerned for their missing friends, the farmers and the animals enlist the aid of a crack commando unit of reptilian rescuers – G-Force! With Hay-Day fast approaching, the meandering menagerie pick up a couple of stray sheep-dogs, and meet a tribe of blind bush-mice, a union of mini-miners, a flock of Royal Flying Duckters and a colony of bats before discovering that perhaps the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

Beyond the Patch: a home-grown musical about discovering where we belong and the importance of family.

Beyond The Patch has a clear and resounding message that there is room enough for us all - that the gate stays open for everyone! No one is turned away. The invitation is extended to everyone, and we have the choice to stay if we want. And your place on the Patch has nothing to do with what you contribute, or how good at mowing you are, you’re welcome and part of the family simply because you’re you!
